An alternative catalogue, Holy Mountain is a re-reading of paintings from the collections of the Musée des Augustins. The book draws on the chromatic effects of atmospheric perspective, a pictorial technique popularised in the Renaissance that consists of marking the depth of field with gradations of colour. Focusing on mountains - a recurring distant landscape - Holy Mountain opens our eyes to these details relegated to the background in the narrative layers of religious paintings.
